Indian Paranormal Society again makes ParaNexus proud. December-05-2010-Sunday-2010:6 PM: Breaking News-Special Report on AAJ-TAK (India's Leading National News Channel) - Indian Paranormal Society Busted the myth of Bhangarh. THURSDAY- 2 Dec 2010: 7 AM |NEW DELHI G.R.I.P. team (Ghost Research & Investigator of Paranormal) Team of Indian Paranormal Society gets ready with their gadgets and confidence to visit a place where night stay is completely forbidden. It is said that those who dared enter Bhangarh ruins at night have never seen the face of the next morning. Aaj –Tak news channel anchor Mr. Ahmed Azeem was excited to be with us on our investigation to find out the reality of Bhangarh. Bhangarh has been in news for so many years for its haunting. Many people have believed that Bhangarh is cursed and no one can survive there for a night. About
Bhangarh (Devanagari) is a ruined town in the Alwar district of the state of Rajasthan, India, most famous for its historical ruins. It is said to be a haunted place. Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has put up a signboard by the main gate stating (among others): "Entering the borders of Bhangarh before sunrise and after sunset is strictly prohibited." The reason for this may be that there can be wild animals and it could be unsafe because there is no artificial lighting. Bhangarh is at the edge of the Sariska Tiger Reserve.

Bhangarh is a place between Jaipur and Alwar in Rajasthan state of India. Bhangarh is known for its ruins, but still worth a visit; the place is beautiful and tranquil. What remains though, is a shadow of a once beautiful kingdom. Passing by Bhangarh, banyans and temples dot the landscape and one chhatri can be seen up on the hill. The most remarkable are the temples of Gopinath, Shiva (Someshwar), Mangla Devi and Keshava Rai. Other more or less preserved buildings are e.g. shops along the main road, several havelis, a mosque, and a palace. The palace was protected by two inner fortifications across the valley. The town is separated from the plain by ramparts with five gates. Bhangarh is also a pre-historic site. This town was established in 1573 (VS 1631) during the rule of Raja Bhagwant Das as the residence of his second son Madho Singh. Madho Singh was younger brother of Emperor Akbar’s General Man Singh I of Amber. Madho Singh participated in many campaigns with his father and brother. The next ruler of Bhangarh was his son Chhatr Singh.Bhangarh slowly declined after Chhatr Singh's violent death in 1630. Near Ajabgarh was founded by Ajab Singh, the son of Chhatr Singh. When Moughal Empire became weaker after the death of Aurangzeb, Jai Singh II attached Bhangarh to his state by force in 1720. After this Bhangarh diminished in population, and when the famine of 1783 (VS 1840) fell on the land the town was abandoned, and has remained a ruin ever since. Legends
It is said that the city of Bhangarh was cursed by the Guru Balu Nath, causing the towns evacuation. Balu Nath sanctioned the establishment of the town but said: "The moment the shadows of your palaces touch me, the city shall be no more!" Ignorant of such foreboding, one ambitious descendant raised the palace to such a height that its shadowed Balu Nath's forbidden retreat and thus the town was devastated as prophesied. The small Samadhi where Balu Nath is said to lie buried is still there. The other myth is as follows: The charm of princess of Bhangarh Ratnavati was said to be matchless in all of Rajasthan. Being eighteen years old, the princess started getting matrimonial offers from other states. In the same region there lived a tantrik, a magician well versed in the occult, named Singhia who was desperately in love with the princess knowing that he would never be allowed to even see her, let alone meet her. One day, he saw the princess' maid in the market buying scented oil for her. Seeing this, he got an idea by which he could meet the princess. He used his black magic and put a spell on the oil which would hypnotize the princess by her merely touching the oil, and she would surrender herself. The princess foiled this plan though. She had seen the tantrik enchanting the oil, and she therefore threw it away, whereupon the flagon rolled over a stone. As soon as the oil touched the stone, it started rolling towards the wicked tantrik and crushed him. While dying, Singhia cursed the palace with the death of all who dwelt in it, without any rebirth in their destinies. The very next year there was a battle between Bhangarh and Ajabgarh and Ratnavati died.
THURSDAY: 2 Dec 2010: 11 AM| Highway G.R.I.P. team members Gaurav Tiwari (Lead Investigator), Abhishek Garg and Akanksha Kaushik are busy on the phone talking to the people who had witnessed paranormal activities at Bhangarh. Calls: Paritosh Kumar Singh (Ranjay) – New Delhi |Director Info-tech Company. “I went to Bhangarh with my friends last December. We somehow tricked the watchmen and entered the premises of haunted ruins. The ruins were looking like a set of horror films as I have seen in many horror movies since my childhood. It was dark and silent. There was no one till the far end of the area. We were three people and we tried to brave our fears that night. We were walking to the old temple and then we felt that someone is following us. We heard crazy sounds and then we were too afraid so we immediately ran out to our vehicles.” Rannvijay Singha – Mumbai | MTV VJ & Actor. “My Friends and I visited Bhangarh a few years back. There was nothing scary in the day but we were late to come out of the gate at the given time. It was evening and was going to get dark any moment. We were heading to the gate and one of my friends heard a loud voice. He freaked out as he thought there was big cat in front of him which growled. I did not care much to believe him but throughout the way back he was shivering.” Anonymous – Jaipur | GRIP WELLWISHER “People in Rajasthan are so afraid of Bhangarh that they don’t even tell you the way to Bhangarh after evening. Make sure you have proper route map to reach the location. I really pity you guys. I am sure one of you will not come back. Let’s hope for the best. Good Luck. I will pray to God that you should keep alright at that haunted place.”
There were numerous other calls throughout our way to Bhangarh. Everyone who witnessed the paranormal activity was not sure whether the phenomenon was really paranormal. Many of them warned us from visiting Bhangarh at night. We were getting very excited listening to people’s response about Bhangarh. Aaj Tak correspondence Mr. Ahmed Azeem and his cameraman were supposed to reach Bhangarh after finishing the formalities with Archaeological Survey of India at their Jaipur office. Thursday- 2 Dec 2010: 4 PM
We were in Rajasthan, heading on a silent highway accompanied by greeneries and sand both the sides. Abhishek, Akanksha and I were discussing about how to conduct an investigation and possibilities of Bhangarh not being haunted. We reached Alwar and asked a person on the road the way to Bhangarh. He told us the way without any hesitation. Thursday- 2 Dec 2010: 6 PM We were now at Alwar, We asked someone the direction and he directed us towards ‘Sainthal’ and told us it is somewhere near it. We reached Sainthal police station and again asked someone for direction. He directed us to the right spot where we saw a signboard for Bhangarh. We reached A.S.I. (Archaeological Survey of India) guest house/office which is 1.5 km ahead of Bhangarh Ruins. Mr. Nadeem welcomed us and asked us to take rest in the guest house till the time Aaj Tak team arrives. Nadeem was good at hospitality. He offered us some coffee till we waited for the other team. We asked Nadeem how long has he been working for ASI and has he ever witnessed anything paranormal here. Nadeem smiled and told us that he has been working there for the last 4 years and has never witnessed anything paranormal. He also told that he has been visiting Bhangarh ruins at nights frequently for renovation and preservation works. When I asked him about the sign board which says that visitors are not permitted after 6 PM... He replied that the rule which was formed in 1870 by which A.S.I. stopped visitors to enter historical monuments after sunset has not yet been changed. This rule also implies at Taj Mahal and many other historical places. Even though A.S.I. has removed the board which stated the visiting hours recently, no one is allowed to enter Bhangarh premises after 6 o clock without official authorization. It is not because of the ghosts. We thanked Nadeem for such wonderful information and we were still eagerly waiting to visit Bhangarh ruins. Thursday - 2 Dec 2010 - 7:30 PM | A.S.I. Office. Mr. Ahmed Azeem of Aaj Tak with his cameraman reached. We were now getting ready for the investigation; checking our gadgets. The moon phase during that period was ‘Waning Crescent’. Geomagnetic field/ solar x-rays – Normal. Outside Temp. : 12 deg C. ; Relative humidity : 70%. Before investigating the ruins, we decided to visit the village nearby. We headed to a village and asked the villagers about the story of Bhangarh. We were surprised to know that every individual had similar or different stories about the place. We accounted at least 10 different stories about the very place. We also got to know how the complete village was very superstitious. If a person falls sick, they take him to a witch doctor and tantriks despite the availability of Govt. Doctors. Recently, a person got bitten by snake and lost his life as his family members took him to a local Ojha (Witchcraft doctor) instead of hospital. Surprisingly, every one of them believed that the place is haunted as they hear different weird voices from the ruins. Even though they believe the place is haunted but not everyone has witnessed any paranormal activity. Those who witnessed it either had impossible stories or had no suggestion to any paranormal event. Thursday – 2 Dec 2010 – 8:30 PM |Bhangarh Gate.
We had now reached Bhangarh gate. Before entering; we looked out for the board which cautioned visitors. We didn’t find it. Then we remembered that Nadeem had told us that they removed the board. We then entered the gate and started taking our base measurement.

We were done taking our base readings and while taking the silent base reading, we saw lot of creepy crawlies and wild animals. We were also taken aback by strange voices about which we came to know later that there are many jackals in the area who howl every night due to cold. Now we started our investigation. We divided into group of Three’s. We made sure that teams should not go very far from the other team as it was a wild area and any accident was possible. We maintained a healthy gap and started investigating in different ways. We were trying to check out the possibilities or why people feel a paranormal presence in this area. We tried to request/invoke/provoke the spirits in different areas of Bhangarh ruins, trying to notice the change in environment with our gadgets. We also tried to sit alone at different places and challenge the spirits to manifest. We really wanted to carry back home with us, at least one positive evidence from Bhangarh. As the night progressed, we were hearing unusual sounds. Nadeem from A.S.I. told us that the Sariska wild life sanctuary is adjacent to the boundaries of Bhangarh. And Sariska wild life reserve has limited water. So the panthers and tigers from the forest often wander Bhangarh ruins at night in search of water. We had already seen so many wild animals like wild cats, jackals, panther, monkeys and snakes till this time. We tried to communicate to any existing spirits and asked them to manifest for us or do anything which can make us believe that they existed. Nothing happened.
FRIDAY – 3 DEC 2010- 01:30 AM |WALKING TOWARDS FORT
As we were walking towards the fort, a strange sound from the tree surprised us. We moved towards it. As we approached the tree, it started shaking. Every branch and leaves of the tree were shaking. This tree looked very horrible. It was a perfect example for ghostly trees shown in those horror movies.
When we pointed our flash-lights on the tree top, we saw at least 50 of monkeys sitting on the branches and shaking them. There were snakes and crickets too around the tree. We then noticed there was a swamp of water near the tree. Wild animals’ habitat is usually near water source. That is why this tree is home for many wild animals and creatures. We also investigated and spent good time in the forts, tombs, galleries, basements, ruins, woods, temples and small tunnels. We did not find any suggestive paranormal activity. Forts and tunnels were full of Bats and bad smell. Lot of Birds, snakes and rodents have made these abandoned monuments their homes. We also found empty liquor bottles, condoms and cigarette butts thrown at different places which made us think that this place is also used for anti-social deeds. In the forts and ruins, we found lot of Tantrik materials like Sindoor, coconut, incense sticks, candles, fruits and skull etc. The watchmen told us that during day, many tantriks and pundits visit there to perform their rituals and they don’t listen to any authority. Nadeem from ASI told us an interesting story of how people come at night asking A.S.I. officials to visit Bhangarh at night. Most of them are dead drunk and want to experience paranormal activity. Though ASI strictly doesn’t allow anyone to enter the ruins after dark, many of youngsters somehow manage to trespass. We were now learning more about how Belief system can manifest things in front of people giving up on their logic due to fear. FRIDAY- 3 DEC 2010- 6 AM | Bhangarh Ruins
The sun started to show up in the sky. We were tired of finding any positive evidence in favour of any paranormal presence at Bhangarh. We thought it was a good time to finally pack up and move out of the gate. We were disappointed that we did not find anything paranormal at such a hyped place but we were also happy that we had debunked a lot of things and have busted the myth of Bhangarh that why people feel the place is haunted. As we were walking towards the gate, we realized Bhangarh is a very beautiful place to visit. The morning at Bhangarh looks very divine.

Note:These readings are from the time of main investigation at different areas. During communication, requesting, invoking/provoking the spirits. G.R.I.P. CONCLUSION No one really knows the real story behind destruction of Bhangarh; even ASI is not sure about true story.
| The legend became myth and people nearby started believing the place is really cursed.
| The visiting time laid by A.S.I. is not because Govt. thinks that the place is haunted.
| Superstition is at extreme in this area and nearby villages. That is why villagers themselves being afraid of spirits, stopped outsiders to visit Bhangarh ruins after dark.
| Couple of watchmen who have been working at Bhangarh for the last 20 years have never witnessed any paranormal activity at night.
| One watchman saw a light falling on the ground couple of years back. He showed us the spot. We recognized it as lightening strike as the area was burnt.
| Most of the people who visit Bhangarh at night are drunk. When a person is drunk, his reacts ability to logically analyze the situation is degraded. Hence, most of the people visiting here at night get scared listening to any noise or animal voice.
| MATRIXING – our brain has a tendency to form image in mind from distorted shapes. Most of the pillars and bushes at Bhangarh are of short lengths and appear like humanoid figures in the dark.
| WILD ANIMALS –Sariska Wild Life Reserve is adjacent to the boundaries of Bhangarh, due to which many wild animals like panthers, tigers, monkeys, Jackals and wolves etc. Visit Bhangarh ruins in search of water. They can also attack anyone going alone if they are hungry.
| The overall environment at night in Bhangarh looks very spooky. Any one going there alone can surely freak out due to the strange sounds and activities of wild animals and spooky scenery. |
NOT HAUNTED
