Make Me Think
If I were to try to read, much less to answer, all the attacks made on me, this shop might as well be closed for any other business. I do the very best I know how--the very best I can; and I mean to keep on doing so until the end. If the end brings me out all right, then what is said against me won't matter. If the end brings me out wrong, then ten angels swearing I was right would make no difference. - Abraham Lincoln

The Ohio Paranormal Convention takes place August 21-22, 2010, in Dayton, Ohio at the Hara Arena. Other guests include; Patrick Burns, John Kachuba, Bob Hunnicutt, James A. Willis, Bill Scott, John Sabol, and more. I will be doing a joint presentation with John Sabol as we will be conducting a joint investigation in May and we will discuss our findings and his methods at the convention. I will be there all weekend with some investigators from our group along with a tech table, video screen showing some of our investigation footage, some books and equipment for sale, and plenty of business cards!

Hope to see you there!

Thank you Ingrid, I was there last year and it was a lot of fun. We had a couple of no shows the last day, so we had a panel question and answer period on Sunday at the end of the event (to fill the time) where we all shared stories and answered questions of the people in attendance. Everyone that was there was really nice and shared stories or information so I am definitely looking forward to it this year.

I might be appearing at another event here in Ohio, but I haven't heard anything recently. I don't know why Florida doesn't have many of these, it seems here in the mid-west they are everywhere. Hopefully we can get another one going for ParaNexus in the future...

The one last October in Rootstown is held by a different group than the one in August, which is in Dayton (known as the Ohio Paranormal Convention). Both were good events, Dayton is going to be a big draw this year and if the one in northeast Ohio (known as the Northeast Ohio Paranormal Conference) gets the guests I've heard bounced around and that I will help get it will also be a big event.

Brian,

I know it's early, but I've been looking at the convention complex where this convention is going to be held, and I'm wondering if you have any tips for getting in and out of there. I'm directionally challenged when it comes to navigation!

Is this held in a certain area inside or is the whole thing devoted to it? Any other details that you can provide on smooth sailing?

Thanks,
Sharon

Funny story. Luckily, I read about the other events on the website before I went. When we pulled up Saturday morning there was about 200 people standing out front with guns and rifles. There was a gun and knife show going on in the main part of the arena that weekend. The convention will be in the front of the building (the building sits on Shiloh Springs Road at an angle) in the main conference area, not the main part of the arena. The conference area is marked by a red awning (pictured below).

There are plenty of places to stay and eat in the area as well as grocery stores to stock up on stuff for the weekend. I recommend staying at or near their official hotel. Last year my wife and I stayed north of the location in an area that wasn't good looking.

John Sabol and I are doing a joint discussion in Dayton. John will take the first 45 minutes to discuss his methods and procedures, I will take the next 45 to share my thoughts about his methods as well as display our evidence gathered at our joint investigation at Farnam Manor. If possible, I would like to work with John again during the summer to add more evidence and discussion to the convention.

I received word that we will have from 12:30-2:15 on Saturday, August 21. I'll still be at the event on Sunday.

In 2009 I spoke on the basics of Cryptozoology, I was a bit nervous as this was not my strongest field as well as having to speak a couple hours after Ohio Cryptozoologist Joedy Cook spoke (who appeared in the "grassman" episode of Monster Quest).

The audio of my speech is available at the Ghostly Talk archive:

Brian, I listened to your talk at the 2009 Convention. Great job! You are a really good public speaker.

I'm looking forward to hearing what you and John are going to say this year. Looks as though with the 12:30-2:15 time slot that you two are practically headliners!

Thank you, I do enjoy public speaking even though I used to fear it. It is exciting to be speaking on Saturday, last year both John and I were on Sunday and I was the last speaker (since there was a no show). Even though I know I'm not the guy people will come to see it's really nice how the "headliners" last year were down to Earth and were easy to approach and talk to. I haven't heard yet, but I'm sure the event will be audio taped.
