“Sign of Life” by Hilary Williams: Family, Tragedy, Music – and a Near Death Experience
Submitted By: Sherryjane Cooke Date: February 20, 2011, 05:00:08 PM Views: 1022
Summary: On a beautiful sunkissed day, daughters of famed Hank Williams, Jr., Hillary and Holly Williams, headed sadly for the funeral of their beloved grandfather in Mississippi. Hilary had intense feelings of doom and even spoke of it several times to friends...she was right to feel that foreboding...

When you hear the name Hank Williams, Sr. or Hank Williams, Jr., you are immediately driven to recognize royalty in Country Music. My own grandmother adored Hank, Sr., Ernest Tubb, Little Jimmy Dickens and more.

The name Williams is definitely one to be honored. And the generations continue in that same star status today! I was thrilled to meet Hank Williams, Jr., in the late ‘80s at a Houston Astrohall event which our events agency produced. Now the amazing Hank, Jr. had two daughters, Hilary Williams and Holly Williams, who are also incredible musicians.

Learning that Hilary had recently written a book called “Sign of Life,” I headed online to with an insatiable desire to know more of the Williams' stories. It is a beautiful and well-written tribute to the Hank, Sr. and Hank, Jr’s extended family who so influenced the history of Country Music and still influences the Country scene today.

As I read my new treasure, “Sign of Life,” something stopped me in my tracks - a horrific car crash when her truck hit a large 18” pothole sending Hilary and Holly to death’s door! Hilary paints the scene so vividly, any reader will find themselves immediately there at the scene and beyond. Hilary began to describe a near death experience much like my own!

Hilary and Holly Williams, Hank Williams, Jr.’s daughters, had sadly set out on their trip from Nashville to Mer Rouge, Louisiana after learning their mother’s dad, Warren White, or “Papaw,” had passed away that Monday at the age of 86.This was their intensely loved grandfather, a hard working farmer and talented artist with carvings in scrimshaw (whale bone,)
